Vocal Competitions

The GRADY-RAYAM PRIZE Competition is a challenge for singers at the high school level. It requires students to learn two arranged Negro spirituals – one assigned and one selected – and sing them from memory before a panel of judges. Approximately 20 students compete at each regional audition. Contestants are selected to go on as finalists in the categories of male and female vocalist, based upon scoring achieved at the regional level.
