What is the GRADY-RAYAM PRIZE?

The GRADY-RAYAM PRIZE in Sacred Music is a collegiate scholarship awarded annually by The "Negro Spiritual" Scholarship Foundation, Inc. It is named for a deceased Roman Catholic bishop Thomas J. Grady and for Curtis Rayam Jr., voice teacher and renowned opera singer. African-American senior high students from across the state of Florida and Tennessee may enter a vocal competition to rehearse and perform Negro spirituals. Winners and runners-up earn college tuition assistance. The GRADY-RAYAM PRIZE Fund is lodged within a trust group of charitable endowments, The Community Foundation of Central Florida, Inc. Four scholarships in each state are granted each year.
